After a quick search at Google we found hundreds of threads where users reporting the same issue. We search for a solution and finally found one that we summarized in this tutorial. I am talking about “the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” or “ com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly“. It doesn’t matter which device you are using from Nexus 6 to Samsung Galaxy star users has faced this issue. So today let’s fix the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped. 'The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.' But mine has to do with the Calendar.
Fix the ‘Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped’ error
First we will clear the Google Play Services cache, then the app cache. One or both of these steps will surely fix the problem.
- Navigate to the Settings menu on your device.
- Scroll to Apps and tap Google Play Services.
- Tap Storage and Clear Cache.
- Go back to the apps list and select Google Play Store.
- Tap Storage and Clear Cache.
- Retest
Clearing the cache deletes any partial or corrupted files being referenced by the app you’re trying to install. This works for the majority of app installation issues. If you’re still seeing the ‘Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped’ error, try this:
- Navigate to the Settings menu on your device.
- Select Storage & USB and tap ‘Cached data’, confirm to clear.
- Tap Apps, then the three dots top right and select ‘Show system’.
- Find Google Accounts Manager and tap it.
- Select Storage and Clear cache.
You will have to sign back into your phone but it should now download apps as normal without throwing an error.
If all else fails, you will have to uninstall Google Play and re-install it to purge the error. Google Play is constantly updated, often without you realizing it and sometimes those updates can cause issues. While a last resort, uninstalling some of those updates can clear the error. If nothing else has worked, try this:
- Navigate to the Settings menu on your device.
- Scroll to Apps and select Google Play.
- Tap the three dots top right and select Uninstall updates.

In every instance of the ‘Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped’ error I have seen, one of these methods fixes it. If it doesn’t, your only option is to perform a factory reset. Avoid this if at all possible as it wipes your phone clean of your personal data. Back everything up first if you need to though.
- Navigate to the settings menu on your phone.
- Navigate to Backup & reset and Factory data reset.
- Tap ‘Reset phone’ and then tap ‘Erase everything’.
- Allow the process to complete and reboot.

Download Manager
- Enable ‘Download Manager’: Follow Settings > Apps > ALL tab.
Tap on the Download Manager app icon to open App Details. Disable the app, and then re-enable it. Restart the device for the changes to take place.
The download manager is dedicated to downloading and uploading certain stand-alone files which are required for the normal working of an application. These are the files which seem unrelated. However, they are utilized by the app. Thus, to improve working, the download manager downloads and stores these files. Additionally, the download manager controls download speeds. It keeps track of and resumes interrupted downloads. Thus, it prevents file fragmentation and corruption of programs.
The download manager available on the Android Play Store control long running HTTP downloads. The URI can be downloaded to a specific location, based on the user’s requirements.
Clearing Data and Resetting:
- Clear App data: Follow Settings > Apps > ALL tab. Find and tap on the app which has shown this error. Click on Clear Cache If the issue is not resolved, return to this screen, and tap on the Clear Data option.
NOTE: ‘Clear Data’ will clear all saved data, conversations etc associated with that particular application. This can also be done for the Google Play Store to remove the associated error. All images, conversations, saved messages and other data will be lost. The user preferences and other applied settings are also removed. This is usually used only when the app is not working at all, or when the user requires more space on their device. By clearing the cache, temporary and junk files created by the app are removed. This improves speed and enhances performance of the device. It also empties some section of the memory.

- Reset app preferences: Follow Settings > Apps > ALL tab.
Bring up the Options menu or tap the three vertical dots at the top of the screen. Tap on Reset app preferences and then hit Reset apps.
Disabling Updates:
- Disable automatic app updates:
Open the Google Play Store. Open the Play Store Settings. Disable automatic updates.

This method is used to prevent version mismatch, as the user can make sure that their device works smoothly with a particular version. Even if other updates are available for that particular app, it will not be updated until the user decides to update it.
