How To Stop A Download In Progress

Troubleshooting Downloads in Windows 10. There are many reasons why downloads might fail. The most common one is, your antivirus utility is blocking the download.

I downloaded the Windows iCloud Photo app and proceeded to download my photos from iCloud to my laptop.

Then I did what I shouldn't have -- and clicked Download Photos multiple times. Now, it is downloading each thing three times. For example, I have a folder called 2016 in iCloud Photo and locally I have three folders -2016, 2016 (2), and 2016 (3).

I know I asked for it -- but somehow I thought iCloud would be smart enough to not download the same thing multiple times. When I clicked Download Photos again, I did it because I didn't think the first download had actually begun. And it had, but you'd think iCloud would recognize what existed the first time I clicked download and when I clicked it again, it would only download what was 'new.'

Anyway - is there a way to view the download processes in progress and cancel the 2nd and 3rd that I started?

Hhmmm. The folder might've been telling you that a file is open as it's trying to force install an update.
Let's consider deleting the folder while your PC is in Safe Mode.
Starting your PC in Safe Mode can help you troubleshoot problems on your PC while using a limited set of files and drivers. Here's how to set your PC in Safe Mode:

  1. Press the Windows + I key from the keyboard to launch Settings.
  2. Select Update & Security, then Recovery.
  3. Click the Restart now button under Advanced startup.
  4. Select Troubleshoot when you get into the Choose an option screen.
  5. Select Advanced options, then Startup Settings.
  6. Click Restart.
  7. Select 4 or press the F4 key from the keyboard after your PC restarts to start your PC now in Safe Mode.
